Nutritional Information for Leon
Leon's entire brand is built on the promise of 'Naturally Fast Food' — fresh ingredients, high fibre, gut-friendly choices. They even label dishes with nutritional symbols for protein, gut health, and plant variety. But does 'naturally' translate to low processing when you look at the ingredient lists? We applied NOVA classification to find out.

The UPF picture at Leon
Leon performs better than most fast food chains under NOVA analysis, but the picture is mixed. Their grilled chicken dishes use simple marinades and recognisable ingredients, scoring NOVA 2-3. The rice bowls use whole grains and fresh vegetables — a genuinely clean base.
However, some items carry hidden processing. The nuggets (even the gluten-free ones Leon promotes) use processed chicken with binders and coatings. The sauces and dressings contain the standard commercial blend of emulsifiers, modified starches, and preservatives. The wraps and buns are commercially produced with standard dough improvers.
Leon's plant-based range is where the processing debate gets interesting. Like Greggs' Vegan Roll, plant-based protein alternatives require more processing to achieve their texture — pea protein, methylcellulose, and flavourings are common. Leon's 'plant-based' options may be better for the planet but aren't necessarily less processed than the chicken.
Lower-UPF ordering guide
For the lowest UPF exposure at Leon: order the grilled chicken or fish options with rice and fresh salad. Leon's bowl format — protein on a grain base with vegetables — is inherently one of the cleaner fast food formats. Avoid the nuggets and heavily sauced items.
Leon's hot drinks (coffee, tea) are clean. Their fresh juices and smoothies are mixed — fresh fruit is NOVA 1 but commercial smoothie bases can contain stabilisers. Ask for simple builds. The breakfast range varies: a scrambled egg pot is clean; a muffin or pastry is processed. Leon is genuinely one of the better fast food options for low-processing eating, but you still need to choose carefully.
