Glucose impact

Low

Glucose risk

Dry wines (red, white, prosecco) contain very little residual sugar - typically 0.3-2g per 100ml. Most calories come from alcohol, not carbohydrates. A 175ml glass of dry red wine delivers only about 0.5g of carbs. Sweet wines (dessert wines, late harvest) can have 10-15g sugar per 100ml and would have a higher glucose impact.

Processing level

NOVA 1 — Unprocessed

Wine is made from fermented grapes - a traditional single-step process. Standard wines contain grapes, concentrated grape must, preservatives (potassium metabisulphite, sulphur dioxide), and acidity regulator (tartaric acid). These are all traditional winemaking aids, not industrial additives. Under NOVA classification, wine is NOVA 1.
